Lara Croft
The character Lara Croft is from the game franchise known as Tomb Raider. The first Tomb raider game was released in 1996 and it has been a well known series even to its latest game 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider'. The Tomb Raider is about a women known as Lara Croft who goes treasure hunting in tombs to find out secrets that she wants to learn but keeping the artifacts in there original place. However, there is a group called Trinity who want to get the artifacts for themselves and take them from their place to either sell or take the artifacts so other explorers can't get them and learn from them. So Lara's job is to stop Trinity while following clues to the artifacts. The developers are Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, Nixxes Software, Ubisoft Milan, Eidos Montréal. Most of the other characters within the game are either villains such as Trinity and there is Lara's partner called Jonah who supports Lara in everything she does but when you play the games you only really play as Lara and every now and then you will see Jonah in the cut scenes or actually in the game with you on a level.
Lara croft is represented as dark and sneaky. this can be shown by her clothing of quite dark clothing and this empathise my point about she being sneaky and loves to use stealth as her main advantage over her enemies and that she can be mysterious too. The way she holds the bow and arrow suggests that she has had training in archery and used a bow before or that she is a quick learner. Also her speech is really soft to show that she is a caring character and this makes us like her more but her appearance hides her soft voice because she looks menacing.
Is Lara Croft a traditional female stereotype? Why? What evidence can you use to support this? What does this say about her representation?
ReplyDeleteNo Lara Croft is not the traditional stereotype because the traditional stereotype for a female would be that they stay at their home and do all the house work like cleaning and cooking food while the man is out doing all the heavy lifting but Lara Croft is out hunting, searching for buried treasure and fighting enemies to be able to study the treasure. This shows that they are trying to break that traditional stereotype and say that a female can do everything that a man can do. Is this better?
