Slaughterhouse Rulz
In this analysis I am going to be talking about how the Slaughterhouse Rulz trailer trailer how it constructs meaning for the audience and what the scenes show and some of the techniques used when making the trailer.
At the start of the trailer it stats with a slapstick image of a camera zooming into Simon Pegg eating a chocolate and this foreshadows a scene that will come later in the film and the type of dramatic and silly humour that is going to take place within the film and Simon Pegg is well known for his dramatic and silly humour in films such as Hot Fuzz. The scene suddenly changes from him eating a chocolate to some people (most likely kids) reloading a gun and holding weapons and aiming them up, looking ready for a fight. In a scene later on Simon Pegg's character is talking to the headmaster and while they are talking, some parallel editing is happening showing scenes that are going to happen later on in the movie and this is used to foreshadow what is going to happen later without too much detail and this creates meaning to the audience because it tells us something is going to happen and makes us aware of whats going to happen in the film.
Later on in the trailer there is a scene where there is two females and one male in a room with no lights on except for candles and this could suggest that something has happened and the lights have cut out and they have to use candles as lights and then either the next scene or the one after it shows us the school from the outside at a later night and then suddenly the lights all cut out and this links in the part of the candles because they might cut out the lights so they don't get seen by something or creature and it creates meaning for the audience because we don't know what is going to happen to the characters and what is causing the lights to go out.

Later on in the trailer there is a scene where there is two females and one male in a room with no lights on except for candles and this could suggest that something has happened and the lights have cut out and they have to use candles as lights and then either the next scene or the one after it shows us the school from the outside at a later night and then suddenly the lights all cut out and this links in
the part of the candles because they might cut out the lights so they don't get seen by something or creature and it creates meaning for the audience because we don't know what is going to happen to
the characters and what is causing the lights to go out. The characters within the trailer are wearing quite posh clothing to suggest that they go to a posh school like a private school. After the short zoom
in on the setting which makes the audience aware of where this is going to take place, two teachers are talking on the staircase up to the school and it looks like one of them is the headteacher because
of the clothing he is wearing is different to the other teachers outfit because one of them is wearing a robe to suggest that he is the one in power at the school. While we can see them talking, if you know what they are talking about, then it suggest foreshadowing because they are talking about the places where people can’t go during the night because they can’t have people just wandering around the school foreshadows that someone will go somewhere they are not supposed to and something will happen. The use of this conversation during the trailer suggests that this will be an important part within the film and this is also embedded because during the conversation, we are shown the foreshadowed future with quick cuts to just give us a glimpse of the future without showing to much of the scene.
There is also a sense of mystery in the film from the line “ there’s something in the forest” this creates meaning because it’s a mystery about what is actually there but then later on in the trailer we are presented with a gaping hole in the forest witch the camera pans upwards over two males looking down the hole and you can’t see the bottom of the hole either. This also creates meaning because of the mystery effect and we would want to know what made that hole, but then it’s slightly revelead later on when it shows a massive green eye that looks to be on some reptile because it looks all scaly, so the question to trailer will be making the audience think will be “is that a reptile, is it a person with a scaly features of what is it?”. Also the trailer works in sync with the music that is put behind the trailer to create the effects of mystery and foreshadowing where it is needed and during the trailer there are short pauses with the music to suggest the dialogue between the characters to empathise there dialogue and it is either useful information for the audience for foreshadowing effects or fifa comedy joke that is made. During the trailer some of the pauses with the music is for a joke between characters because the film isn’t supposed to be a horror film, it’s supposed to be a comedy horror film, so there are a few jokes within the trailer to make the audience laugh and have a good time watching the film.
In conclusion, I cannot say whether the trailer has an accurate representation of the actual film because I haven’t seen the film.
