Tide print advert analysis

Image result for tide print advert

We are presented with a print advert presenting Tide. Tide is a washing powder and the print advert is aimed at women with the women on the front because of the traditional stereotype about women being house wives in that era.

We are presented with a white female throughout the advert. Next we are given a headline stating "Tides got what women want!", then there are illustrations throughout the page such as the 'love hearts'. In the middle of the page there is a box of Tide washing powder being wrapped in the female's arms and the female is wearing quite old fashioned clothing to represent an older period of time that this is taking place. Then at the top right of the advert, there is a picture of the main female at a washing machine that looks quite old and nothing from this modern era of washing machines. There is a bold red headline in a sans serif style font with a exclamation mark at the end of it. The advert looks handmade and coloured in by hand.

The way the main female is holding the Tide product suggest that they are affectionate for the product and can't get away from the product and her eyes are fluctuated on the Tide product which also empathizes her love and need for Tide and this could show that she is dreaming about the product and the red lipstick that the female is wearing could signify multiple of things such as love or could donate a sexual vibe which is aimed at the product. The love hearts are another way to show either that love or sexual vibe because the illustrations suggest that they are in love with the product and can't get enough of it. The word Tide is used to wash away all the bad germs and bacteria but it could also mean washing away thoughts of the war ans all the terrible things that happened in the war. The headline "Tides got what women want" suggest that all women in that time period would want the best washing powder for their family and to be the best housewife, so that Tide is the best and making all women want to buy the product. The use of the words "clean" and "white" next to the old washing machine could suggest the cleanliness of the product and that the product keeps the clothes white. The main audience for this advert is women but it could also be presenting it to men because if men saw this advert, they would want their wife to be like this female on the advert and then they will go buy the product for their wife to be able to be like the female on the advert. The red headline could suggest the love that Tide will bring and the use of the red is also the same colour as the Tide product and the use of the colour of the red will draw people to the headline and then take a 'Z' path to the main image with the product of the Tide. The use of the handmade style of advert could also suggest an older period of time because they didn't have the technology that we have today, so they could get it coloured by a computer or do it on a computer. The use of the low camera shot looking up at the Tide product could suggest the superiority of the product and how thankful the female is for the product.
